You can see the use of polyhedral in many pieces by M.C. Escher. He made this irregular solid the main subject of his work. He put them in the back ground of some of his pieces as well. The five distinct polyhedral are also called platonic solids. In the woodcut Four Regular Solids, Escher includes all but one platonic solid.
